Answers to our most common questions

We are located at 11 Mackenzie Street, Bendigo.
Free 1.5-hour street parking is available, and the building is wheelchair accessible.

Yes. The public is welcome to access our collection for research.

Volunteers are onsite Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.
Appointments are preferred so we can ensure the right volunteer is available to assist you. 

Please contact us to arrange a visit.

Fees may apply depending on the nature of your request.
Handling of items is considered on a case-by-case basis to ensure proper preservation.
A large part of our collection is searchable online through Victorian Collections.

In some cases, Yes.

Research assistance, copying/scanning, and digital downloads may incur a fee.

Yes!

We offer the following membership options:

  • Single membership: $44

  • Family membership: $66 (two people at the same address)

  • Group membership: $66 (Schools, Community Groups, Organisations or Associations)

  • Associate: Free (Under 15 years old, no voting rights)

Memberships are due in July each year.

Discounted rates are available from January to June.

Members receive:

  • A monthly newsletter

  • Discounted rates for monthly walking tours

  • Free quarterly history talks

  • Invitations to special events

Donations are always welcomed.

We also have books available for sale

For most of the year our museum is open

  • Thursday 11am – 2pm
  • Saturday 11am – 2pm
 
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday by appointment only.

Please note: our volunteers take a break from mid-December to the end of January each year to recharge and spend time with their family and loved ones. 

The museum is closed during this time.

 

Yes — donations are welcomed by appointment.
Please note:

  • Large items may not be accepted if we cannot safely store them.

  • We assess all items for historical significance and condition before accepting them.

Yes — we will be accepting new volunteers again from February 2026.
Roles available include:

  • Customer Service volunteers for the museum

  • Data entry and cataloguing for the Collections Team

  • New Committee Members are very welcome
