The Bendigo Historical Society collection contains over 1000 boxes, as well as folders, drawers and shelves
concealing a hidden world of stories – full of surprises, connections, achievements and disappointments.
Join volunteers who reveal some of the stories they have uncovered.

Meet at History House, 11 MacKenzie Street Bendigo
The tour will include an Open House and presentation from the owners about the history of the buildings and the story of the renovations. This will be followed by a morning tea of scones jam and cream, fruit platters and barrel tea in the banquet room.
Bookings essential – For all booked events we prefer online bookings but for in-person bookings come to History House, 11 MacKenzie Street, Bendigo, Tuesdays or Thursdays from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. All welcome

The gold mines of Bendigo – A treasure trove of documents.

Join mining collection experts Kay MacGregor and Baden Coakley as they discuss and explain the range and significance of over 10,000 gold mining documents from 1860s to 1950s – including from the Mining Warden, Department of Mines, various Mine Legal Managers, shareholder and minute books from the Bendigo legal offices of McColl, Rankin and Stanistreet.

Meet at St Kilian’s Church
Join tour leader Pip Johanson as she takes you on a walk along Pall Mall Bendigo. There are lots of strange and quirky stories to discover! Pall Mall, often called ‘the spine’ of the city, it runs in parallel with the Bendigo Creek where gold was discovered. The Mall soon became the hub of commercial and social activity with many stories, some obvious, some hidden.

Long Gully Uniting Church, built on the 1857 site.
Meet at 14-26 Wilson St, Long Gully
Join us on a tour of the church and discover the story of this Vahland and Getzschmann gem. The former Methodist Church and Sunday School were erected in two stages: the School in 1865 and the Church in 1877. Come and see the long run of clerestory windows and slender cast iron columns as well as the zebra polychrome window decoration. Marvel at the Alfred Fuller organ once described as ‘our best local example of a nineteenth-century organ’
