Bendigo Church Organs April 2026
A walking tour with Thomas Heywood
Welcome to our special Australian Heritage Festival Event for 2026
Join the internationally acclaimed organ virtuoso Thomas Heywood on a tour of three churches and their organs. For St Kilian’s Church, the German-built organ bought in 1871 by the legendary Bendigo priest, musician and property investor, Henry Backhaus, the St Andrew’s Uniting Church, in 1882, ordered an instrument from Alfred Fuller for the former church building, which was moved into the present church building in 1930. The tour will also re-visit the 1883 Alfred Fuller organ at St Paul’s Cathedral currently being restored, enhanced and completed by Australian Pipe Organs of Melbourne.
Guests can walk or drive between venues. A program with directions and start times will be available at the first church, St Killian’s.
Cost $24.75 + fees
