Walks into History Bendigo Chinese Precinct, Bridge Street Bendigo

In this tour Leigh McKinnon will explore the history and personalities of the old Bridge Street Chinatown, from the first Chinese businesses which were established there in the 1850s, its heyday in the late 19^th and early 20^th centuries, its decline and near complete demise in the mid 20^th century through to its subsequent revitalization with the construction of the Golden Dragon Museum, the Yi Yuan Gardens and Guan Yin Temple, and the completion of the Dai Gum San Precinct.

The tour will also include the rare opportunity to enter the Bendigo Chinese Association Elders’ Room which is part of the only surviving building of the original Chinatown.
